More About Going Green
Why do we need to go to a green board?
Each year in the United States, more than 1.7 million acres of land are developed. Building operations account for nearly 40% of total energy use and atmospheric emissions. They consume more than a quarter of all wood, raw materials and water, and create 150 million tons of municipal solid waste. Their impact on individual health is also significant, in that occupants spend nearly 90% of their time indoors.
Why is this fact important? In 1995, the U.S. Green Building Council established the LEED Green Building Rating System to accelerate the development and implementation of 'green design'. Green design involves design and construction practices that significantly reduce or eliminate the negative impact of building on the environment and on occupants.
Also, On April 27, 2007 the California Air Resources Board (CARB) voted unanimously to adopt the nation's most stringent regulations on formaldehyde emissions from particleboard and other composite wood products. This decision, likely to improve indoor air quality across the nation, attests to the potential power of the LEED rating system to dramatically accelerate the transformation of the building materials market toward healthier materials.
In other words, all wood construction and wood products used within buildings will need to follow these strict standards where chemically-treated boards, such as office consoles, are no longer permitted.
What is All Source's mission?
All Source will introduce the "Green" board (particle board that is chemical-free, 100% recyclable, and made of recycled content) and will go into circulation in July of 2008. The original Slim Boy will still be available in our Canadian warehouse.
Our Shredinator II is made of 25% recycled content and is 100% recyclable as well. All Source proud to provide high quality products made right here in North America and is pleased to announce that our "Green" boards will source out of Oregon, U.S. The United States is where the legislation originated and where strict building standards are expected to be met.
All Source's mission is to educate the document destruction industry about the Green movement and become the environmental voice that encourages our customers to follow this important direction. All Source is promoting the benefits of using earth friendly shred containers that not only eliminates identity theft and contributes to a recycling program but improves the quality of our everyday health and the environment we live in. We must look beyond the point of just recycling paper and encourage the industry, and their customers, that there are choices.
All Source wants to create a positive impact in the industry and is moving towards this movement providing "greener" choices for your customers. All Source's mission is to work with environmental proactive companies and that is why we have a wonderful partnership with Schaefer Systems.
Schaefer’s carts are 100% recyclable and environmentally certified.
Will this cost more money to go Green?
It will cost slightly more than the original Slim Boy Series because the process behind making an environmentally friendly board is relatively new and currently low in demand. All Source feels that over time, with customer support, the demand for "Green" board will grow thereby reducing its cost (matching costs to particle board). Those who go green will feel the benefit financially in the long run, will comply to federal standards, and will have peace of mind knowing that your organization has contributed to our environment. This will give you the competitive advantage your business needs and in the short run, this will offset those costs.
When can we purchase the new Slim Boy?
You can order the Slim Boy Green Series and our original Slim Boy at our Canadian warehouse located in Barrie, Ontario; available assembled and ready to ship. Full distribution of the Green Series from our California and North Carolina warehouses will commence in July of 2008.
What do I do with my existing console(s)?
At this point we are unable to determine how and when the legislation will address this concern. Standards, such as LEED points, should still be followed.
In Fall 2008 All Source will introduce a Swap-Out Program; more information will be released at a later date.
