ABOUT FORMALDEHYDE

• Formaldehyde is used in the production of wood binding adhesives and resins worldwide.
• Composite wood emits formaldehyde (called off-gassing) slowly and continuously at all times.

• Designated as toxic air contaminant (TAC) in California with no safe level of exposure.
• A volatile organic compound classified as “carcinogenic to humans”
• Linked to health issues such as cancer from persistent eye, skin and lung irritation

NEW FORMALDEHYDE LAWS & REGULATIONS

The Air Toxics Control Measure (ATCM), which came into law on January 1st 2009, states:
• Selling particle board made with formaldehyde is banned.
• Exposure from inhalation of formaldehyde emitted from composite wood products containing urea-formaldehyde resins will be reduced.
• Only certified formaldehyde free particle board can legally be sold in California.
• We feel that this will likely set a national precedent in banning the sale of particle board containing formaldehyde.
